Technology Account & Decision-Maker Research

Technology sales teams rarely need a generic company list. They need the right accounts and the right people within those accounts. We support targeted technology research by identifying relevant businesses and mapping decision-makers to defined criteria.

Database Interactive technology account research — target software and IT companies mapped to decision-makers and buying roles

Challenge

A technology-focused business needed to identify relevant companies and people responsible for purchasing, technology, operations and business decisions. Generic company lists were not sufficient because the project required specific roles within target accounts.

Approach

We researched target companies and mapped relevant decision-makers by job function. Company websites, professional profiles and other publicly available sources were used to identify and cross-check business information.

Scope

Target-account research, decision-maker identification, contact research, company profiling and data validation.

Markets

Technology, Software, IT Services and Digital Businesses.

Outcome

Created a focused account and decision-maker database designed for targeted B2B outreach rather than broad, untargeted prospecting.

Qualifying the account before researching the person

Contact research is the expensive step. Running it against an unqualified account list wastes most of the budget on companies that were never going to buy.

We confirm the company against the client's criteria first — sector, size band, product fit, region — and only then research the people inside it.

Mapping the buying group, not a single name

Technology purchases are rarely one signature. A typical account needs an economic buyer, a technical evaluator and an operational owner identified separately.

Delivering one contact per account looks efficient and stalls the first time that person changes role. Three mapped roles keep the account workable.

Records where the decision-maker could not be identified were returned with the company retained and the gap flagged, so the client could decide how to work the account.

Key takeaways

  • Account lists are built before contact research, so effort is spent only on companies that qualify.
  • Buying groups in tech span several functions, so multiple roles are mapped per account.
  • Stack and product signals are recorded as evidence, not inferred from company size.
