B2B Email Verification and What It Can and Cannot Tell You

Verification reduces risk; it does not confirm a person will read the message.

Database Interactive B2B email verification — checking business email deliverability to reduce bounce rates in outreach campaigns

Understand catch-all domains

A catch-all domain accepts everything, so acceptance is not evidence the mailbox exists. Treat these records as unconfirmed.

Re-verify before major sends

Verification has a shelf life measured in weeks for active markets. Re-check before a significant campaign.

Key takeaways

  • Verification tests deliverability, not interest or attention.
  • Catch-all domains return an ambiguous result, not a positive one.
  • Re-verify close to send; a check from three months ago is a historical record.

Reading the result honestly

A valid result means the mailbox accepted the check at that moment. It says nothing about whether the person still holds the role, reads the inbox, or has a filter that will route the message away.

An accept-all domain is the most commonly misread outcome. It confirms the domain accepts mail for any address, which is not evidence that this address exists.

Protecting sending reputation

The purpose of verification in a campaign is to keep hard bounces low enough that the sending domain stays trusted. That is a real and worthwhile outcome.

It is a different outcome from targeting quality, which is decided earlier, when the account and the role were chosen.

Practitioner note: verify within a week of send for cold outreach, and treat accept-all results as a separate, lower-priority segment.
